governor jerry brown made a rare appearance at the meeting today. uc regents told him that they will need more than $276 million from the state to keep tuition from going up next year. the governor says that is a sum that is simply unrealistic. the members of the regents finance committee voted to accept the budget framework, but students say they will fight to keep tuition down. they are shocked and they're angry. >> students can't understand now that prop 30 has passed, bringing billions more in funding from taxes on the rich, why are we talking about increasing tuition? we should be talking about rolling tuition back and rolling back cuts. >> and i'm going to try the best i can to keep tuition down. and i'm going to try the best i can to get revenue from the state. but i do that in the context of a lot of other claims that people are making. >> reporter: and we're back here live. you can see students are pitching their tents. again, they will camp out here overnight. i'm told they expect to pitch about 50 tents out here. and they will be outside
